In my comment to OP, I recommend the Rega. It would be the Project Debut Carbon Evo with an Ortofon Blue (960 CAD) or the Rega Planar 3 with I guess. Rega doesnt provide that in their designs.

After that, the cartridge sounds just as good on the Rega.ĭon't worry. After owning several Rega TTs from an RP1 to an RP8 (I now own a Thorens TD-1601) I would opt for a Project Debut Pro in that price range for one very simple reason, it has adjustable VTA. Swap the Ortofon Blue in, and it blows away the Rega.unless I setup the Blue on the Rega. Any of the others would be fine, but the ProJect Debut Carbon (with Ortofon 2M Red) is in such demand that the factory cant keep up with the demand. I loved the sound of a Sumiko Pearl on my Rega, but it sound like shit on my Pro-Ject. Right now it is the best-sounding turntable/cartridge combo Ive ever owned. The Pro-ject is £299 with the Ortofon 2M Red.

For £298, the Performance Pack adds, among other things, a cart upgrade to the Bias 2. With a similar minimalistic approach, Pro-Ject’s Debut Carbon DC is the RP1’s most direct competition in terms of quality and design, but these decks could not be. Unless all of that happened, you probably either liked the cart you're using or the sound of your system more so than the others. The RP1 is actually availables for £229 with the Rega Carbon cart. In researching the RP1, you’ve probably come across decks like the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon DC, the U-Turn Orbit and Rega RP3 most often, so let’s see how the RP1 holds up. Im stilll thinking which entry level TT to buy. Unfortunately the Debut Carbon wasnt considered but the article would give you a view on the Pro Ject RPM1 vs Regas RP1.

Both turntables are the best options at 1,000 and you really can’t go wrong purchasing. It’s stock cartridge is the Rega Carbon is mounted on Rega’s improved RB101 tonearm, which is a simpler variant of the legendary RB300. The Pro-Ject Debut PRO is the natural competitor to the Rega Planar 3 one of the most popular and best-selling audiophile turntables of the past 30 years and having spent considerable time with both it’s starting to look like a very different race. The Rega RP1 performance pack got 4 1/2 stars (along with Audio Technicas ATLP120USB). The Rega RP1 is a beautiful turntable and sits at a crossroads between generous features and practical value that could most closely be compared to the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon.

So, both tables had the same cartridge, with the same VTA and VTF? Both tables were listened to on the exact same system using the same input as the last? Both were played at the exact same levels? And each time a table was setup you weren't told which one you were listening to? If i had to choose between a Rega Planar 1, a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon and an AT-LP120X, i would always take the AT-LP120X. The Pro Ject RPM1 won the test with 5 stars.
